भारत बनाम वेस्टइंडीज टेस्ट के पहले दिन भारतीय टीम के बल्लेबाज वेस्टइंडीज के विरुद्ध कुछ खास कमाल नहीं कर पाए. विंडीज के गेंदबाजों ने शुरुआत में ही भारतीय टीम की कमर तोड़ दी. उपकप्तान अजिंक्य रहाणे ने भारतीय टीम की पारी को संभाला. भारतीय टीम ने पहले दिन का खेल खत्म होने तक 6 विकेट के नुकसान पर 203 रन बना लिए. लेकिन रहाणे अपना शतक पूरा नहीं कर सके.

बता दें कि इस मैच में कप्तान जेसन होल्डर ने टॉस जीतकर पहले गेंदबाजी का निर्णय किया. भारतीय टीम ने 25 रन पर ही अपने तीन विकेट गंवा दिए थे. लेकिन अजिंक्य रहाणे एक छोर पर टिके रहे. भारतीय टीम के ओपनर मयंक अग्रवाल 5 रन बनाकर पवेलियन लौट गए. वहीं चेतेश्वर पुजारा 2 रन और कप्तान कोहली 9 रन ही बना सके. अजिंक्य रहाणे ने पहली पारी में 81 रनों का योगदान दिया और वह शतक पूरा करने से 19 रन दूर रह गए.

रहाणे ने पहले दिन का खेल खत्म होने के बाद कहा- मुझे पता था कि मुझसे यह सवाल पूछा जाएगा. मैं इसके लिए तैयार था. जब तक मैं क्रीज पर होता हूं तो मैं केवल टीम के बारे में ही सोचता हूं. मैं अपने शतक के बारे में नहीं सोच रहा था. इस विकेट पर 81 रन भी बहुत मायने रखते हैं. इस समय हम अच्छी परिस्थिति में है.
अजिंक्य रहाणे ने कहा कि मैं अपनी टीम के लिए योगदान करूं, मेरे लिए सबसे ज्यादा यही मायने रखता है. हां, यह सच है कि मैं शतक के बारे में सोच रहा था. लेकिन हमने जब 25 रन पर तीन विकेट गंवा दिए तो हालात मुश्किल हो गए. जैसा कि मैं पहले ही कह चुका हूं कि अगर मैं टीम के लिए योगदान कर रहा हूं तो काफी है. जहां तक शतक की बात है तो मैं उसको लेकर चिंता नहीं करता, वह अपने आप ही बन जाएंगे.
